MOBULA RAYS OFFSHORE SAFARI
Often referred to as “The Aquarium of the World,” the Sea of Cortez is home to an incredible variety of marine species, both above and below the surface. During the spring and summer months, this region becomes the stage for one of nature’s most fascinating migrations—the gathering of mobula rays. These creatures travel in groups that can number in the hundreds or even thousands, offering an unforgettable opportunity for freedivers and snorkelers to witness them gliding through the water or leaping into the air in coordinated displays.
Mobula rays, a type of filter-feeding elasmobranch, can reach up to 3.6 feet in wingspan and are known for their acrobatic behavior, often propelling themselves out of the water in groups. Their migration stretches from the Gulf of California to the waters off Peru, making the Sea of Cortez a key location to observe them at certain times of the year.
The region is also an important habitat for various species of cetaceans, including dolphins, sperm whales, and, on occasion, pods of orcas. While sightings are never guaranteed, this season has historically been a promising time to encounter these apex predators in their natural environment. Whether you're in the water or observing from a boat, the Sea of Cortez offers a dynamic and ever-changing marine experience that showcases the diversity of life in this unique ecosystem.
